Existential Edition: What Are Humans Made For?
AI has us questioning everything. We had created this world dependent on humans and the tools we have made. These tools enhance our abilities. These tools take away the mundane tasks. These tools are meant to be under us. But what is AI? A tool, in theory, that is capable of thinking in a way. Thinking isn’t a mundane task. It’s being a human. God created us in His image all those years ago. He blessed us with brains, making the creation capable of understanding creation itself and how to create. For centuries, we used this blessing to create jobs, work, community, society. We made cities, companies, churches, associations. We create the ability to make us live longer. We made medicine, prosthetics, vitamins. We created AI. We created a mirror of ourselves. It shows us what we have decided in the past.
What are humans made for? That’s the question, isn’t it. Well, because no one is going to read this, I’ll tell you. We are made to love and serve God. We are made to work with Him; learning, growing, seeking, knowing, living with Him.
Oh how worthless are the things we do on the earth. All is vapor! What is this life but a series of decisions, choices that amount to nothing if not with Jesus. We see a rise in depression over the past decades. Is it absurd to claim that people are getting depressed because they aren’t experiencing the fullness of life? We weren’t meant to be consumers but creators. We were made to be set apart from the rest of creation and to work and create and imagine. Scroll, watch, consume. That’s all we do; that’s what I do all the time. Scroll, watch, consume. Thats not the way of Jesus. His way is rest, bless, love. Now rest isn’t laziness. His rest is resting with God, learning in the quiet, studying throughout life, but still with peace.
So that’s what a human is made for. If you’re reading this and you feel depressed or worthless or feel like your life won’t amount to anything, I recommend Jesus. Just try it out. What’s the worst that can happen? The best that can happen is you find purpose and joy and love from God like I did.
God bless you, reader.
